April Art Highlights: A Month of Impressionism & Spring!

Hello Art Families!

Our first month of classes has been an absolute whirlwind of color, creativity, and growth. We dived deep into the world of French Impressionism and celebrated the beauty of the rainy season. Here is a look back at what our talented young artists accomplished this April!

🎨 Artist Spotlight: Pierre-Auguste Renoir

This month, we introduced the children to Pierre-Auguste Renoir, a master of light and a close friend of Claude Monet. We learned how Renoir used soft brushstrokes and vibrant colors to capture moments of joy and the changing effects of light.

🐣 Week 1: Easter Basket Vases

We kicked off our very first week by celebrating the Easter holiday. The children built their own "basket vases" using popsicle sticks, which they painted and glued with care. After decorating them with ribbons and flowers, everyone filled their creations with fresh daffodils to bring a bit of spring sunshine home!

☔ Week 2: Renoir’s "The Umbrellas"

Inspired by Renoir’s famous masterpiece, The Umbrellas, we explored the color blue. Our students practiced using different shades to create highlights and lowlights, giving their work depth. We also got hands-on with wax paper stained glass to create beautiful raindrops to hang from our umbrellas.

🌧️ Week 3: The Sounds of Nature

Taking a cue from the spring showers outside, we shifted our focus to sound and texture. The children constructed and decorated their own rain sticks. The studio was filled with the soothing sounds of "falling rain" as they tested out their handmade instruments.

🖌️ Week 4: Mixed Media Magic

To wrap up our amazing first month, we experimented with mixed mediums. We combined wax and watercolors to create stunning "resist" paintings. Seeing the watercolor dance around the wax designs was the perfect way to celebrate how much we’ve learned and grown together.

🌸 Coming Up in May: Spring Blooms

Get ready for a vibrant month ahead! In May, we will be celebrating the beauty of spring blooms. We are excited to dive into the world of Georgia O’Keeffe and learn how to create bold, beautiful floral creations inspired by her legendary style.

📅 Important Dates & Reminders

We look forward to seeing all the budding artists back in the studio!
